Sarah in magnoliaSpring has sprung!  The Urban and Community Forestry Team is busy preparing for Arbor Day celebrations across the state. We congratulate all of our 82 Tree City USA Communities, 11 Tree Line USA utilities, and 4 Tree Campus USA universities!  We welcome the City of Shoreline, Seattle City Light, and Benton Rural Electric Association to the family. This year Ellensburg, our oldest Tree City, will celebrate 30 years. Special recognition and cheers are due to Bellevue, a Tree City for 22 years which is receiving its twentieth growth award this year. To see a map of all of Washington’s Tree Cities, visit our Tree City USA resource page.

We are also pleased to announce the recipients of the 2013 Community Forestry Assistance Grants. The Community Forestry Assistance grant program is offered annually, with funding assistance from the USDA Forest Service, for urban forestry planning, management, and education projects statewide. For a full list of grant recipients, visit our grant resources page.

If you are interested in more information about the 2013 projects or future grant possibilities, please feel free to contact us. We look forward to reviewing tree planting grant applications from our Tree City USA communities this spring, and will announce those grants next month, along with the recipients of the Community Forestry Inventory grants.

As always, if we can provide technical assistance to your community, please contact us at urban_forestry@dnr.wa.gov or at 1-800-523-TREE.
