I’m pleased to announce that on August 1st, the Urban and Community Forestry Program grew! I’d like to welcome Micki McNaughton to the team. She will spend the next year coordinating the Urban Forest Restoration projects in the Puget Sound Basin and in Southwest Washington. More on this exciting project will appear in the September Tree Link.
The second project we are starting this month is an Urban and Community Forest Public Tree Inventory Pilot Project. We have hired a contractor to complete tree inventories in 10 communities in four Washington counties. These projects will be completed by certified arborists over the next few months and will provide quality and consistent data to the pilot communities. We hope this will become the model for how inventories are completed in Washington in the future. If you are interested in a tree inventory in 2013, please let me know. We will provide information on the pilot project progress as the summer continues.
Enjoy your summer (it looks like warm weather is finally here!), water your young trees, and start planning now for fall planting projects!
